Hacktoberfest 2026 at The Penguins Club
October is Hacktoberfest, the month when people around the world send their first (or fiftieth) contribution to open source projects. The Penguins Club is taking part, and our whole GitHub organization is open for contributions.
You do not need to be an expert. Fixing a typo, translating a page, or improving a confusing README all count as real contributions to us.
Where to contribute
Our repositories live at github.com/the-penguins-club. Good places to start:
- bd-startups: a community-maintained list of startups in Bangladesh. Add a missing company or fix outdated details.
- Awesome-Cybersecurity: a curated list of security resources. Suggest a tool, course, or write-up that helped you.
- uradhura: open issues are a good way to get to know the codebase.
- The website: this site is open source too, in The-Penguins-Club/web. Improvements to pages, design and accessibility are welcome.
Making your first pull request
- Pick a repository and read its README.
- Look through the open issues, or open a new one describing what you want to change.
- Fork the repository, make your change on a branch, and open a pull request.
- A maintainer will review it and may ask for small changes. That is normal.
Check the official rules
Hacktoberfest has its own rules about which pull requests count towards your progress. Read them at hacktoberfest.com before you start, so none of your work is wasted.
